Sell something to someone every single day in your health club or gym!

As I traveled around this great country this year I found that I needed to keep stressing the point below to struggling gym owners over and over again! So in the tradition of holiday re-gifting I have repackaged a very old but good post to give to you. Enjoy this early Christmas gift!

This phrase should apply to every single staff member in your club. This includes YOU, Mr. Owner or Mr. Manager! Sell something to someone every single day in your health club or gym! You must learn to carry the flag yourself lead by example and inspire others! Each and every staff member must be on board and held accountable to follow this simple rule.

I know you do not want to pressure people to buy stuff and that you got in the health club business because you have a passion for health and fitness and want to help people. I do want to point out that you cannot help people if you are to unable to staff your club or keep your doors open due to a bank account that is EMPTY!

The days of relying on membership dues alone to sustain your club are over. The answer is not in selling more memberships each day or running a cheap paid-in-full gym membership promotion. Although it does help if you are selling memberships each day! You understand what I am trying to tell you.

Just in case you do not I will list a few examples of what I mean below. Just an FYI… Selling something does not always mean money exchanges hands at the point of sale.

  • Desk Person can ask a member that is on the way out of the club if they would like a post workout recovery drink.
  • Desk Person can ask a member each time if they are getting the results they were looking for when they joined the club. If the member says that they are not then schedule them for a FREE meeting with a trainer.
  • Trainer can ask a member who really seems to be hitting the weights hard if they are taking a protein supplement to increase their lean muscle gains. If they are not then offer to give them 10% off tonight and show them a few options ranging from bars or drinks.
  • Child Care person can ask a member if they have tried the new “6 week get ready for summer class” which just so happens costs 149.00 for the specialty class.

Walk out in your club and give it a try. I take that back! Walk out into your club and do it!

Until next time, enjoy life!
